Hiking in the Eifel with the god of fire
Taming fire and protecting it from its dangers - in mythology, this is the task of Vulcanus, the god of fire and patron saint of blacksmiths. Those who hike the Trail of leisure named after him in the Kyll valley discover the wild majesty on the 32 kilometres of the Vulcanus Trail from Gerolstein to Jünkerath.
Relax, become aware of the treasures of nature and experience the sensual power of the volcanoes: Mineral springs and maars of the Eifel, mysterious caves, mighty cinder cones and lava flows testify to their power, but also their beauty. Every step on the volcano trail brings the creative energy close in its own way. Sometimes it is the abundance of rare plants and animals that found their protected habitat here. Sometimes it is man, who over the millennia obtained millstones, mineral water or valuable ores.
The Iron Museum in Jünkerath shows what craftsmanship inspired the god of fire. The volcano garden in Steffeln reveals the wild, formative violence of the eruptions. A roman villa rustica has been resurrected near Duppach. From the volcanic summit of the Rother Kopf, the view expands seemingly into infinity. Here the hiker is invited to take a seat on a stone throne and pause. The whole landscape of the Eifel is one big place of power and hiking here is pure elixir of life.
