Eifelverein Hillesheim "Rund um Neroth"

We start our hike at the intersection of Layenstraße/Hauptstraße in Neroth. There, we begin an interesting circular tour through the diverse volcanic landscape. The main attractions along our way are the Nerother Kopf with the ruins of the Freudenkoppe and the millstone caves. A final stop for refreshments is planned.

Carpooling for transportation, €3 per person.

Hiking distance: 16 km, 355 m elevation gain (moderate)

To conclude the hiking year 2025, we invite you to an easy hike around Hillesheim. Afterwards, there will be a cozy gathering with mulled wine and snacks. Those who are unable to hike are also warmly welcome. The location of the final gathering will be announced in due time. Auf den Spuren der Eisenbahn mit dem Eifelverein Gerolstein

The 10 km hike leads from Gerolstein to Hillesheim along the former railway track. On July 1, 1912, the era of the stagecoach came to an end with the commissioning of the railway line. After destruction in World War II, the line was decommissioned. Helmut Bell from the Jünkerath railway enthusiasts explains the history along the way.
