The trail passes along the outskirts of Hinterweiler and Kirchweiler, before the impressive Ernstberg – the highest mountain in the Vulkaneifel – catches your eye.

Distance: 8 km / 240 m elevation gain

Meeting point: Pavilion at Kyllwiese, 54570 Mürlenbach
For hikes outside, carpooling can be arranged. A contribution towards the driver's expenses is expected, approximately 3 - 5 € per person, depending on the distance.

The geological conditions of soil formation, the sometimes changing anthropogenic interventions and today's care of the protected natural area can be traced in the field.     In addition to an interactive introduction to volcanology and rock science for budding volcanologists, in this workshop we dedicate ourselves to individual accessible volcanoes and what they offer and can be seen in them. We will look for interesting stones and minerals, learn about their differences in colour, hardness and other properties and then know, for example, whether they are of volcanic origin. Sturdy shoes and (weather) appropriate clothing are recommended. Photo equipment, magnifying glass, container for rock samples are useful.
