Ormont

"Now get this through your heads!"

What is this saying all about, where does it come from?
Natural history hike around the dicken Bösch in Stadtkyll. To old charcoal-burner sites, through the Lohew forest and to the old boundary stones from the 17th century. During the 9 km long hike, we learn a lot of historical facts about the Eifel forest and explore some natural features along the way. From the starting point at the tourist information in the centre of the village at the church, we walk around the dicken Bösch to Sängscheid 550 m above sea level and cross the "Furk" forest marked with old boundary stones.
Afterwards we can stop for refreshments in the local inns and restaurants.

Mein Freund der Baum - über die Wacholderheide Seiderath zu meinem Lieblingsbaum
May 14, 2025

It could tell a lot, the Liberation Beech or Napoleon's Beech on the "Alten Voss" near Berlingen.                                                                                 Clinging to the old volcano, it has defied wind and weather for centuries and is reluctant to reveal its secrets and experiences. The way to it leads through a juniper heather near Pelm and depending on the season there is also a flora worth seeing and worth protecting. Price: adults € 8.00, children up to 16 years free, groups € 60.00, information / registration (required): Johannes Munkler, email: J.Munkler@t-online.de, tel: 06591 3888, mobile: 0171 6443572, hiking distance 8 km at 220 meters altitude, walking time approx. 3 hours.

Durch die Wacholderheiden zum Hippelsteinchen in Gönnersdorf
Aug 27, 2025

The limestone ridges in the area of the Eifel limestone hollows are known as the Tuscany of the Eifel. The appearance of the landscape with its impressive juniper heaths is very close to the Italian model. Centuries of extensive grazing have created valuable habitats. With a little luck, you can discover orchids and gentians here, or observe colourful butterflies, lizards and slow worms. The highlight of the round tour is the "Hippelsteinchen", a dolomite rock around which numerous legends revolve. Price: € 5.00 per person, € 8.00 per couple, free for children under 10. Meeting point: 54584 Gönnersdorf, Zum Hirdenberg (drive straight on from the B 421 to the car park).
